World Endometriosis Research Foundation
targets 14,000 European legislators

29 SEPTEMBER 2008

The World Endometriosis Research Foundation (WERF) met with the EU Commissioner for Health, Androulla Vassiliou, in July this year to encourage inclusion of women’s health issues, and endometriosis in particular, in the EU’s future health priorities.

This meeting has been followed up by a striking advert in The Parliament Magazine which targets an estimated 14,000 European legislators.   The advert emphasises how endometriosis can trap women afflicted by the disease; how the disease affects not only their quality of life but also carries a personal and socio-economic cost.

The World Endometriosis Research Foundation is publically calling for endometriosis to become a health priority, which needs investment in research to prevent millions of women from being crippled by endometriosis and/or being prevented from having children.

This issue of The Parliament Magazine has been published in connection with the annual European “Health Forum Gastein”, and WERF hopes that the advert will encourage national health care ministers to become aware of the challenges surrounding endometriosis and to be open to support and invest in endometriosis initiatives.
