Why
a research foundation for endometriosis?
The
World Endometriosis Research Foundation (WERF™)
was founded in 2006 as the first global
charitable organisation with an aim to
foster research into endometriosis
WERF's mission is to improve the overall
knowledge about endometriosis and its treatment.
To do so, it
provides a platform to attract sufficient funding from
a variety of sources to:
a) Facilitate and carry out well
powered, international multi-centre trials
b) Support specific research projects investigating
disease mechanisms.
WERF™ is
a joint initiative between the ASRM, ESHRE and the World
Endometriosis Society, and it collaborates with professional
societies and endometriosis support organisations across
the globe.
Research
is needed because endometriosis is a big problem!
Having to battle daily debilitating
symptoms prevents millions of women to fulfill their
dreams of finishing an education, to maintain a career,
to have children - and sometimes to maintain relationships.
In addition there are significant socio-economic impacts.

To invest in much needed research into
endometriosis so that early diagnostics and treatments
can be discovered to prevent endometriosis and enable
millions of women to get on with their lives.
The solution
is a global platform where:
- collaborative reseach is carried out between international
centres;
- datasets
are shared;
- encouraging
results lead to further research; and

strict protocols are enforced to ensure research is
high quality.

a solution for those affected by endometriosis.
